Answer
North Macedonia
Answer
North Macedonia
Which European country's flag features a yellow sun on a red field? North Macedonia. Its national flag shows a stylized golden-yellow sun on a red field, with eight broadening rays extending to the edges.
The modern flag was designed by Miroslav Grčev and adopted on 5 October 1995. Its eight rays represent the “new sun of Liberty,” a phrase from the national anthem “Denes nad Makedonija” (“Today over Macedonia”). Unlike a simple centered disk, the rays spread across the whole flag, creating the impression that the sun illuminates the entire field.
This design replaced the country's first post-Yugoslav flag, adopted in 1992. That earlier flag used the Vergina Sun, a 16-ray symbol associated with ancient Macedonian history and discovered at Aigai in present-day Greece. Greece objected to its use, and the dispute contributed to an economic embargo; the later flag removed that symbol while retaining the red-and-yellow colour relationship.
The answer is North Macedonia rather than Albania, whose red flag features a black double-headed eagle, or Kosovo, whose blue flag carries a gold map and stars.
