Which European competition had Aston Villa won before entering the 2026 UEFA Super Cup?

Aston Villa entered the 2026 UEFA Super Cup as the UEFA Europa League winner.

Villa secured its place by winning the 2025–26 Europa League, adding a major European trophy to the club’s history. That victory qualified the English side to face the reigning Champions League winner in the Super Cup.

The Europa League is UEFA’s second-tier men’s club competition, following the Champions League in the continental hierarchy. Its winner earns the right to contest the Super Cup against the Champions League winner from the same season.

This qualification route differs from Aston Villa’s earlier Super Cup appearance in 1982, when the club represented the European Cup, the predecessor of today’s Champions League. The 2026 final therefore linked Villa’s historic and modern European successes.
