London is the European capital famous for New Year’s Eve fireworks launched near the London Eye.
London’s modern public fireworks display takes place along the River Thames, with the London Eye and nearby landmarks forming the central visual setting. The event is organized by the Mayor of London and attracts large crowds, while television broadcasts show the fireworks against the city skyline.
The London Eye is a giant cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the Thames. Its illuminated capsules and position opposite central landmarks make it a recognizable part of the midnight display, although fireworks are launched from multiple locations rather than from the wheel itself.
The celebration is sometimes described simply as “Big Ben fireworks.” Big Ben marks the time through the Elizabeth Tower’s clock, but the London Eye is the landmark most associated with the fireworks staging area.
