Which enhanced first-generation Pokémon game starred Pikachu as the player's partner?

Pokémon Yellow is the enhanced first-generation Pokémon game that starred Pikachu as the player's partner. It was released in Japan on September 12, 1998, for the Game Boy.

Unlike Pokémon Red and Blue, Yellow begins with Pikachu, which follows the player outside its Poké Ball. The game's presentation was influenced by the Pokémon anime, including the availability of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle through story events.

Pikachu's relationship with the player is central to Yellow's identity, but the game remains a role-playing adventure built on the same Kanto setting and core mechanics as the earlier versions. It also added visual changes designed for the Game Boy Color.

Pokémon Yellow was released internationally in 1999. Its anime-inspired features made it distinct from a simple remake, while later titles such as Crystal and Emerald applied the enhanced-version idea to subsequent generations.
