Which Egyptian queen was a lover of Julius Caesar?

The story behind the answer

Which Egyptian queen was a lover of Julius Caesar? Cleopatra was the Egyptian queen who became Caesar’s lover and political ally.

Cleopatra VII met Caesar in Alexandria in 48 BC during a succession dispute with her brother, Ptolemy XIII. Ancient accounts describe her entering Caesar’s quarters secretly, famously said to have been carried in a rolled-up bedcover. Caesar supported Cleopatra’s claim to the Egyptian throne, and after the Alexandrian War she ruled jointly with her younger brother, Ptolemy XIV, while retaining the real authority.

Their relationship was both personal and political. Cleopatra later accompanied Caesar on a prolonged visit along the Nile and gave birth to a son, Ptolemy XV Caesar, commonly called Caesarion. Caesar never publicly made Caesarion his legal Roman heir; his will instead favored his grandnephew and adopted son, Octavian.

A common mix-up is Mark Antony, who became Cleopatra’s later partner after Caesar’s assassination. Cleopatra’s other siblings, including Arsinoe IV and Ptolemy XIII, were rivals rather than Caesar’s famous lover.
