Which eagle is known for having the largest feet of any living eagle?

The harpy eagle is known for having the largest feet of any living eagle. Its powerful legs and exceptionally large talons are adaptations for capturing arboreal mammals in tropical forests.

Harpy eagles live in Central and South America, where they hunt sloths, monkeys, opossums, and large birds. Their broad wings and relatively short tails help them manoeuvre through dense forest rather than soar across open landscapes for long periods.

The species takes its name from the harpies of Greek mythology, winged beings described in ancient stories. Harpy eagles are sometimes called the most powerful eagles, but that phrase is subjective because strength can refer to body mass, talon size, prey size, or lifting ability. Habitat loss and persecution have reduced populations in parts of their range.
