The Dubai skyscraper that is the focal point of a famous New Year's Eve fireworks display is Burj Khalifa.
Burj Khalifa stands in Downtown Dubai and reaches 828 metres, making it the world's tallest building since its opening in 2010. Its height and distinctive tapering form make it an especially visible centerpiece for large-scale light, laser, and fireworks productions staged around the New Year.
The tower was officially inaugurated on January 4, 2010. It was developed by Emaar Properties and designed by the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith as the design architect. The building contains residences, offices, observation areas, and the Armani Hotel Dubai.
The New Year's presentation is not necessarily fireworks alone. Depending on the year, organizers have combined pyrotechnics with LED displays, fountains, music, and lasers. Burj Al Arab is another famous Dubai landmark, but it is a sail-shaped hotel rather than the skyscraper identified with the central Downtown countdown.
