Which Doechii song won Best Hip Hop at the 2025 MTV VMAs?

Doechii’s song Anxiety won Best Hip Hop at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. The track also won Best Choreography, giving Doechii two victories at the ceremony and making the song one of the night’s standout successes.

Anxiety has an unusual release history. Doechii originally uploaded an early version to YouTube in 2019, years before formally releasing a re-recorded version on streaming services on March 4, 2025. The song gained renewed attention after becoming popular on TikTok, turning an old recording into a major contemporary hit.

The track prominently samples Gotye and Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used to Know, whose instrumental in turn incorporates Luiz Bonfá’s Seville. That layered sampling history is one reason listeners sometimes identify the song through its familiar melodic texture. Doechii’s VMA win recognized the music video and its hip-hop impact, not merely the song’s chart performance. The video was directed by James Mackel and released in April 2025.
