Which document begins with the words “We the People” and replaced the Articles of Confederation?

The story behind the answer

The United States Constitution begins with “We the People” and replaced the Articles of Confederation.

Delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia drafted the Constitution during the summer of 1787. The convention met from May 25 to September 17, with George Washington presiding. The document created a stronger federal government with legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787, and took effect after the required number of states ratified it. It replaced the Articles of Confederation in 1789. The first ten amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, were ratified in 1791.

The Constitution is separate from the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration announced separation from Britain in 1776, while the Constitution established the structure and powers of the new United States government.
