Philip Barantini followed Harry Bradbeer, the director of the first two Enola Holmes films, as series director. Barantini therefore became the first filmmaker to direct an Enola Holmes movie after Bradbeer.
Bradbeer directed Enola Holmes in 2020 and Enola Holmes 2 in 2022. Both films starred Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes and established the series’ energetic combination of period mystery, fourth-wall comedy and action. The third film retained key creative connections, including screenwriter Jack Thorne and returning cast members, while changing directors.
Barantini was already known for work including Boiling Point and later became associated with Adolescence. The director change does not mean that Joe Wright, Kenneth Branagh or Guy Ritchie had previously directed this franchise: those filmmakers are connected to other period or Sherlock Holmes projects, not the first two Enola Holmes movies.
