Which Dior designer introduced the first ready-to-wear collection under the Miss Dior label in 1967?
Answer
Philippe Guibourgé
Answer
Philippe Guibourgé
Philippe Guibourgé introduced Dior’s first ready-to-wear collection under the Miss Dior label in 1967.
The Miss Dior ready-to-wear line marked an important change in how the house reached customers. Haute couture garments were individually produced and available to a small clientele, while ready-to-wear collections were manufactured in standard sizes for wider distribution.
Guibourgé worked during Marc Bohan’s long leadership of Dior. The Miss Dior name had already been strongly associated with the house’s first perfume, launched in 1947, so the ready-to-wear label connected a newer clothing business with an established Dior identity.
This fact is easy to mix up with Dior’s fragrance history. Miss Dior began as a perfume name, but in 1967 it also identified a significant fashion line. The clothing launch therefore belongs to Dior’s expansion beyond traditional haute couture.
