Which designer launched the fashion label Tom Ford in 2005 after leaving Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent?

The story behind the answer

Tom Ford launched the fashion label Tom Ford in 2005 after leaving Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

Ford established his own company with Domenico de Sole, who had been Gucci's chief executive. The move followed Ford's highly influential period at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, where his collections, advertising and brand direction helped produce a major revival in both labels' cultural visibility.

The Tom Ford brand initially focused on luxury products including menswear, accessories, eyewear and beauty. Ford presented his first womenswear collection under his own name in 2010, expanding the label's fashion identity beyond its original emphasis.

A common mix-up is dating the label to Ford's earlier Gucci work. He joined Gucci in 1990, became creative director in 1994 and later oversaw Yves Saint Laurent, but those were roles within existing houses. The independent Tom Ford label began in 2005.
