Which designer created the fashion label Comme des Garçons?

The story behind the answer

Rei Kawakubo created the fashion label Comme des Garçons.

Kawakubo founded the Japanese company in Tokyo in 1969 and later established its influential Paris presence. Comme des Garçons became known for unconventional silhouettes, asymmetry, distressed fabrics, and designs that challenged traditional ideas of beauty and construction.

Kawakubo is also associated with Dover Street Market, a retail concept developed with her husband, Adrian Joffe. Her work has influenced avant-garde fashion far beyond Japan.

The name is French for “like boys,” although the label is a Japanese fashion company. Kawakubo is sometimes confused with Yohji Yamamoto, another major Japanese designer who presented in Paris, but they are separate designers and brands.
