Which desert contains the Wolfe Creek meteorite crater?

The story behind the answer

Which desert contains the Wolfe Creek meteorite crater? The answer is the Great Sandy Desert.

Wolfe Creek Crater lies in the northeastern part of Western Australia's Great Sandy Desert, within Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater National Park. The crater is about 875 metres wide and roughly 60 metres deep, making it one of Australia's most prominent impact structures.

The crater formed when an iron meteorite struck the region during the Pleistocene. Although it was once estimated to be around 300,000 years old, later research placed its age at less than 120,000 years. Scientists first learned of it after an aerial survey spotted the formation in 1947; a ground investigation followed two months later.

A common mix-up comes from the Tanami Road, which provides access to the crater, and the nearby Tanami Desert. The road does not indicate the crater's desert location. Local Djaru people call the crater Kandimalal and preserve Dreaming stories associated with its formation.
