Which denomination of 1976 Bicentennial U.S. coin featured a colonial drummer on its reverse?

The story behind the answer

The quarter was the denomination of the 1976 Bicentennial U.S. coin featuring a colonial drummer on its reverse.

The United States Mint issued special Bicentennial designs for the quarter, Kennedy half dollar, and Eisenhower dollar. Each coin carried the dual date 1776–1976 on the obverse, while the reverse designs differed by denomination.

The quarter’s reverse showed a colonial drummer alongside a torch surrounded by thirteen stars. The half dollar depicted Independence Hall, and the Eisenhower dollar showed the Liberty Bell superimposed on the Moon. These designs made the coins widely recognizable souvenirs of the Bicentennial.

The coins were struck in both 1975 and 1976, but all bore the dual date rather than a single 1975 date. This is why a coin made before the anniversary year can still display “1776–1976.” America250 is expected to inspire new commemorative issues, but those 1976 circulating designs remain the classic comparison.
