Which day is known as Black Monday in the 1929 Wall Street Crash's first major trading shock?

The story behind the answer

October 28, 1929, is known as Black Monday in the 1929 Wall Street Crash’s first major trading shock.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 38.33 points, or about 13%, that day. The decline followed the heavy selling of Black Thursday, October 24, and preceded the even more famous Black Tuesday, October 29. Together, those sessions shattered confidence in the previously booming U.S. stock market.

The labels can cause confusion because “Black Monday” is also used for the 1987 global crash and for several later market declines. In the 1929 chronology, however, Black Monday specifically means October 28. The crash’s effects continued well beyond these named days, and the Dow did not reach its ultimate low until July 1932.
