Which daughter of Marie Curie wrote the biography Madame Curie?
Answer
Ève Curie
Answer
Ève Curie
Marie Curie’s daughter Ève Curie wrote the biography Madame Curie.
After her mother died in 1934, Ève gathered letters, documents, and memories for a full-length biography. The resulting book, Madame Curie, was published in 1937 and presented Marie’s childhood in Warsaw, move to Paris, partnership with Pierre Curie, scientific discoveries, and public life.
Ève was Marie and Pierre Curie’s younger daughter and the sister of Irène Joliot-Curie. Unlike her sister, who became a physicist and later won the 1935 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Frédéric Joliot-Curie, Ève pursued music, journalism, literature, and international humanitarian work. Her biography therefore offered a family perspective rather than a technical research monograph.
Madame Curie became an international bestseller and was published in several countries. It was also adapted into a 1943 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film starring Greer Garson. The book helped shape the enduring public image of Marie Curie as both a pioneering scientist and a determined woman working against institutional barriers.
The name can cause confusion because “Curie” refers to several family members. Ève wrote the biography; Irène was the scientist and Nobel laureate. Bronisława Dłuska was Marie’s sister, not the author of Madame Curie.
