Which currency replaced the Rhodesian dollar in Zimbabwe in 1980?

The currency that replaced the Rhodesian dollar in Zimbabwe in 1980 was the Zimbabwean dollar.

Zimbabwe introduced its own dollar in 1980 when the country became independent and changed its name from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe. The first Zimbabwean dollar was divided into 100 cents and initially continued many design features and denominations associated with the preceding Rhodesian currency.

The currency later suffered extreme inflation. Zimbabwe issued progressively larger denominations, including a 100 trillion-dollar banknote in 2009. In April 2009, the government suspended the Zimbabwean dollar and allowed foreign currencies, especially the U.S. dollar and South African rand, to circulate in a multicurrency system.

Zimbabwe reintroduced the Zimbabwean dollar in 2019, although currency arrangements changed again afterward. The history is therefore more complicated than a simple continuous currency line. The first Zimbabwean dollar and the later reintroduced dollar belong to different monetary periods, even though both use the same name.
