Which currency is divided into 100 tetri in the country of Georgia?
Answer
Georgian lari
Answer
Georgian lari
The Georgian lari is divided into 100 tetri in the country of Georgia.
Georgia introduced the lari on 2 October 1995, replacing the transitional Georgian coupon. The reform helped establish a national currency after the country’s independence and the economic disruption that followed the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
The name lari comes from an old Georgian word associated with property or hoard, while tetri means “white” in Georgian and was historically connected with silver coins. The National Bank of Georgia is responsible for issuing the currency.
The lari’s ISO 4217 code is GEL. Its banknotes and coins feature Georgian historical figures, cultural subjects and national imagery. It should not be confused with the Armenian dram, another South Caucasian currency introduced after the Soviet period.
