Which C.S. Lewis book uses the fictional planet Perelandra as its setting?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the C.S. Lewis book set on the fictional planet Perelandra.

Published in 1943, Perelandra is the second novel in Lewis’s Space Trilogy, also called the Ransom Trilogy. Its protagonist, Elwin Ransom, travels to the planet Perelandra, which is identified with Venus in the trilogy’s imaginative cosmology.

On Perelandra, Ransom encounters a newly created world whose human inhabitants face a test involving obedience, temptation, and the possibility of a fall. The novel combines planetary adventure with theological speculation and literary allusions to the biblical story of Eden.

The first volume, Out of the Silent Planet, takes Ransom to Mars, while the third, That Hideous Strength, returns the action largely to Earth. Perelandra is therefore both the book title and the name of its central world.
