Which country’s high-speed train is called the Al Boraq?
Answer
Morocco
Answer
Morocco
Morocco’s high-speed train is called Al Boraq.
Al Boraq began passenger service in November 2018, linking Tangier with Casablanca through Morocco’s high-speed rail infrastructure. It was the first high-speed railway service in Africa, giving Morocco a landmark position in the continent’s rail history.
The service uses Alstom Euroduplex trainsets adapted for Morocco. On the high-speed line, trains can operate at up to 320 km/h, while the route continues over conventional railway tracks toward Casablanca.
The name comes from al-Buraq, a legendary creature in Islamic tradition associated with the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey. Al Boraq is sometimes confused with Morocco’s conventional intercity trains, which cover many additional destinations but do not use the high-speed service.
