Brazil is the only country crossed by both the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn.
The Equator crosses northern Brazil, passing through the states of Amazonas, Roraima, Pará, and Amapá. The Tropic of Capricorn crosses the country farther south, through states including São Paulo, Paraná, and Mato Grosso do Sul. Brazil therefore spans a particularly broad range of tropical and subtropical latitudes.
Brazil is also the largest country in South America and the fifth-largest country in the world by area. Its territory includes major geographic regions such as the Amazon Basin, the Brazilian Highlands, the Pantanal wetlands, and a long Atlantic coastline. The Amazon River and its tributaries drain a large portion of the country.
Australia is crossed by the Tropic of Capricorn but not the Equator, while Indonesia is crossed by the Equator but not the Tropic of Capricorn. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is also crossed by the Equator, yet lies entirely north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
