The country that is home to the Lamborghini car company is Italy.
Automobili Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by Italian industrialist Ferruccio Lamborghini. The company’s headquarters and main production facility are in Sant’Agata Bolognese, in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. Lamborghini began with the goal of building refined grand touring cars capable of challenging established marques such as Ferrari.
Its first production automobile was the 350 GT, introduced in the mid-1960s. Lamborghini gained worldwide attention with the Miura, unveiled in 1966; its rear-mid-engine layout became highly influential in the design of later high-performance sports cars.
The brand’s ownership has changed several times. It passed through financial difficulties and bankruptcy in the late 1970s, later came under Chrysler ownership, and was acquired by the Volkswagen Group in 1998 through Audi. That corporate ownership does not change Lamborghini’s national origin: it remains an Italian marque, even though its parent company is German.
