Which country is salsa musician Oscar D'León from?
Answer
Venezuela
Answer
Venezuela
Oscar D'León is from Venezuela.
Óscar Emilio León Simosa was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1943 and grew up in the city’s Antímano neighborhood. He became one of the country’s most prominent salsa musicians and is widely known by nicknames including “The Pharaoh of Salsa” and “The Lion of Salsa.”
D'León was largely self-taught on upright bass. Before music became his profession, he worked jobs including mechanic, assembly-line worker and taxi driver while performing with local groups. In 1972, he helped found Dimensión Latina, the Venezuelan group associated with his breakthrough.
People sometimes confuse his nationality with the countries where he became popular. His music reached Cuba, Puerto Rico, the United States, Spain, Japan and many other places, but his origin is Venezuelan. His best-known song, “Llorarás,” was recorded with Dimensión Latina in 1974.
