Peru is larger by total area than Chad or Niger.
Peru covers approximately 1,285,216 square kilometres. Chad is very close at about 1,284,000 square kilometres, while Niger covers roughly 1,267,000 square kilometres. Peru therefore wins, but only by a narrow margin over Chad.
Peru occupies the western side of South America, combining a Pacific coastal desert, the Andes, and a huge eastern region in the Amazon Basin. Nearly 60 percent of Peru’s territory lies in the jungle region east of the Andes, even though much of the population lives along the coast or in the highlands.
The close comparison with Chad is an easy source of mistakes: rounded figures can make the two countries appear tied. Chad is a landlocked country spanning the Sahara, Sahel, and Lake Chad Basin, while Niger is also largely Saharan and landlocked. Peru’s Pacific coastline and Amazonian lowlands give it a slightly greater total area.
