Malaysia is home to Sarawak Chamber, the world's largest known cave chamber by volume and floor area. It lies in Gunung Mulu National Park on the island of Borneo, in the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
The chamber is part of the Clearwater Cave system, which formed in thick limestone through the long-term action of groundwater. It measures about 700 metres long, 300 metres wide, and at least 70 metres high in published descriptions. The huge underground space is difficult to reach and requires technical caving skills.
Sarawak Chamber is different from the world's longest cave system, the Mammoth Cave System in the United States, and from the deepest caves, which are measured by vertical depth. Gunung Mulu is also famous for Deer Cave, one of the world's largest cave passages by area. The park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
