Thailand hosts the last two opponents in the original Street Fighter: Adon and Sagat.
After the player defeats the first eight challengers, the tournament moves to Thailand for its closing battles. Adon, a Muay Thai fighter and Sagat's former student, is the penultimate opponent. Sagat, presented as the “Emperor of Muay Thai,” is the final boss and the last obstacle in the arcade campaign.
This ending is easy to confuse with later Street Fighter games, where Sagat appears as a selectable fighter and the final boss may be M. Bison or another character depending on the title. In the 1987 original, however, Sagat is not a normal playable character in the single-player campaign; he is the climactic computer-controlled opponent.
Thailand also helped establish the series' practice of tying stages and fighters to national or cultural identities. The first eight opponents come from Japan, the United States, China, and England, while Thailand is reserved for the final pair. Sagat's scar and rivalry with Ryu were developed more fully in subsequent games.
