Which country gave the United States the Bicentennial Bell in Philadelphia in 1976?

The story behind the answer

The United Kingdom gave the United States the Bicentennial Bell in Philadelphia in 1976.

Queen Elizabeth II presented the bell on July 6, 1976, on behalf of the British people. The gift commemorated the shared history between Britain and the United States while marking the 200th anniversary of American independence.

The Bicentennial Bell was cast at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, the same London foundry associated with the original Liberty Bell. It is a replica rather than the original bell, and its inscription says it was given by the people of Britain to the people of the United States.

The presentation took place after the July 4 anniversary and during the queen’s state visit. Her visit included Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Virginia, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, as well as other Bicentennial functions.
