Which country gave the Eiffel Tower its home?

The story behind the answer

France is the country where the Eiffel Tower stands, in Paris.

The tower was built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, a world’s fair celebrating the centennial of the French Revolution. Construction began in 1887 and finished in 1889. The structure was designed by the engineering company of Gustave Eiffel, with key design work by Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier.

At about 300 meters tall when completed, it became the world’s tallest man-made structure, surpassing the Washington Monument. Its height changes slightly with temperature because iron expands when heated.

Many Parisian artists and writers initially criticized the project, but the tower became a landmark and later a symbol of France. It was originally intended to be temporary, yet its usefulness for radio communication helped preserve it.
