Omar Artan represented Somalia as referee of the 2026 UEFA Super Cup.
Artan took charge of the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg on 12 August 2026. His nationality made the appointment especially notable in UEFA Super Cup history.
He became the first non-European referee to officiate the competition. The appointment was made within a UEFA–CAF cooperation framework, linking European and African football administration.
Paris Saint-Germain won the match 2–1. The game included goals by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Brian Madjo and Désiré Doué, but the referee’s appointment was itself one of the fixture’s major historical talking points.
