Which country built the Mini-Research Module 1 (Rassvet) for the ISS?

The story behind the answer

Russia built the Mini-Research Module 1, known as Rassvet, for the International Space Station. The module was manufactured in Russia and became part of the Russian Orbital Segment, where it provides docking and storage functions rather than serving primarily as a large laboratory.

Rassvet was launched on May 14, 2010, aboard NASA’s Space Shuttle Atlantis during mission STS-132. The shuttle delivered it to orbit, but that launch role should not be confused with the module’s country of construction. Rassvet was attached to the nadir port of the Russian Zarya module, and its first docking was performed by Soyuz TMA-19 in June 2010.

The name Rassvet means “dawn” in Russian. The module was also called the Docking Cargo Module and MRM-1. Its design drew on the earlier Mir Docking Module, giving visiting Soyuz and Progress spacecraft another connection point while providing additional internal storage. Italy is sometimes associated with ISS hardware because the Italian-built Leonardo module supplies storage and logistics support, but Italy did not build Rassvet.
