Which country borders Peru on the eastern shore of Lake Titicaca?

The story behind the answer

Bolivia borders Peru on the eastern shore of Lake Titicaca.

Lake Titicaca lies high in the Andes on the boundary between Bolivia and Peru. Its eastern and southern sections are in Bolivia, while Peru occupies much of the western and northwestern shoreline. The lake is widely recognized as the highest navigable lake in the world, although definitions of “navigable” vary.

Bolivia’s largest lake port, Copacabana, sits on a peninsula extending into Titicaca. The Bolivian side also includes Isla del Sol, an island strongly associated with Inca origin traditions. Puno is the best-known Peruvian city on the lake.

The lake has two main basins linked by the narrow Strait of Tiquina. Its elevation is about 3,812 metres above sea level, making the surrounding landscape unusually high and cold for a major freshwater lake. Lake Titicaca is sometimes mistakenly described as belonging entirely to Bolivia, but the international border runs through it.
