The country that borders 14 nations and stretches across the world’s greatest span of time zones is Russia. Its land neighbors are Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, North Korea, Poland, and Lithuania; the last two border Russia through the Kaliningrad exclave.
Russia’s enormous east-west reach extends across both Europe and Asia, covering more than 17 million square kilometers. It currently uses 11 time zones, ranging from UTC+2 in Kaliningrad to UTC+12 in Kamchatka and Chukotka. The “8 time zones” wording is therefore an error or outdated variation, but it does not change the uniquely identifiable answer.
Russia also has maritime boundaries with Japan and the United States. Its geography creates dramatic time differences: when it is morning in Moscow, it can already be late evening in the far east. Russia stopped using daylight saving time in 2014, keeping its regional offsets fixed throughout the year.
