The C3 Corvette generation introduced removable T-top roof panels in 1968.
The C3 was introduced for the 1968 model year with an entirely new body and interior inspired by the Mako Shark II concept. Its coupe used two removable roof panels separated by a fixed central T-bar, creating an open-air experience without converting the car into a full convertible.
The 1968 coupe also featured a removable rear window and storage provisions for the roof panels, including straps, vinyl bags, and a tray behind the seats. These details made the T-top a practical part of the new design rather than merely a styling flourish.
The C2 had offered a coupe, but not factory T-top panels. The term can also be confused with a targa roof: a T-top has two panels divided by a central bar, while a targa roof generally uses one removable panel behind a fixed windshield header. The C3 continued through 1982.
