Which cornerback did the Colts acquire from the Dolphins before the 2012 season?

The story behind the answer

The Indianapolis Colts acquired cornerback Vontae Davis from the Miami Dolphins before the 2012 season. Miami traded Davis to Indianapolis on August 26, 2012, for a second-round pick and a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Davis had entered the NFL as the 25th overall selection in the 2009 draft and quickly became an important part of Miami’s secondary. The Colts viewed him as a strong addition while rebuilding under new head coach Chuck Pagano, a defensive-minded coach. Davis opened the regular season as a starting cornerback alongside Jerraud Powers.

The trade is sometimes confused with Indianapolis’s other 2012 defensive moves, including the acquisition of defensive back D.J. Johnson from Philadelphia. Davis, however, was the prominent former Dolphins cornerback brought in that summer. He later became a key member of the Colts’ defense and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2014 and 2015.
