Which continent lies in all four hemispheres?
Answer
Africa
Answer
Africa
Africa is the continent that lies in all four hemispheres.
The Equator crosses Africa from west to east, placing part of the continent in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The Prime Meridian also crosses Africa, placing territory in both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. Together, these two lines give Africa land in all four hemispheres.
The Equator passes through countries including Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and Somalia. The Prime Meridian crosses countries such as Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Ghana.
Maps can make this fact look surprising because most of Africa is east of the Prime Meridian and north of the Equator. The key is that both reference lines cross the continent. Other continents may cross one of these lines, but Africa is the standard geographic answer for occupying all four hemispheres.
