Which continent lies in all four hemispheres: Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western?

The story behind the answer

Africa is the only continent that lies in all four hemispheres: Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western.

The Equator crosses Africa near its central region, placing land in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The Prime Meridian also passes through western Africa, while the continent extends east and west of that line. This combination gives Africa territory in all four hemisphere categories.

Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most-populous continent. It spans a wide range of environments, from the Sahara Desert and Mediterranean coast to equatorial rainforests, savannas, and southern deserts. The continent is also bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Red Sea.

South America crosses both the Equator and the Western Hemisphere but does not extend into the Eastern Hemisphere. Asia crosses the Equator and Prime Meridian in limited areas, yet conventional continental boundaries do not give it the same all-four-hemisphere distinction.
