Africa is the only continent crossed by the Equator, the Prime Meridian, the Tropic of Cancer, and the Tropic of Capricorn.
The Equator crosses central Africa, passing through countries such as Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and Somalia. The Prime Meridian crosses western Africa, including Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Algeria, and Mali. The two tropics cross northern and southern parts of the continent.
This unusual geographic combination places Africa in all four hemispheres: northern, southern, eastern, and western. South America is also crossed by the Equator and Tropic of Capricorn, but not the Prime Meridian or Tropic of Cancer. The lines are geographic reference circles used to describe latitude and longitude, not visible borders on the ground.
