Which constellation is known as the Water Bearer?

The constellation known as the Water Bearer is Aquarius.

Aquarius is a large constellation of the zodiac, located between Capricornus and Pisces. Its Latin name means “water-carrier” or “cup-carrier,” and traditional star maps depict a human figure pouring water from a vessel. The water stream is often shown flowing toward the southern constellation Piscis Austrinus.

In Greek mythology, Aquarius is commonly associated with Ganymede, a beautiful Trojan youth carried to Mount Olympus by Zeus to serve as cupbearer to the gods. Other traditions connect the figure with Deucalion, a survivor of a great flood. Earlier Mesopotamian cultures also represented a water-bearing figure in this region of the sky.

Aquarius is easy to confuse with Pisces or Capricornus because all three are neighboring zodiac constellations. Aquarius is an astronomical constellation, while “Aquarius” is also the name of the eleventh sign in Western astrology; the sign and constellation no longer occupy exactly the same position because of Earth’s axial precession.
