Which console was the original Guitar Hero released for?

The original Guitar Hero was released for the PlayStation 2. Harmonix developed the rhythm game, while RedOctane published it in November 2005 as a package built around a guitar-shaped controller.

The PlayStation 2 was the only platform for the first Guitar Hero. Players could use the bundled guitar peripheral or a standard controller, but the guitar was the intended way to play its scrolling-note system. The game’s design grew partly from Harmonix’s earlier rhythm games and Konami’s GuitarFreaks.

A common mix-up is confusing the original game with later entries. Guitar Hero II expanded to Xbox 360, while Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock appeared on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, Windows, and Mac. Those later releases helped make the series a multi-platform hit, but they were not the debut platform.
