Which console was the Japanese Pokémon Stadium released for?
Answer
Nintendo 64
Answer
Nintendo 64
The Japanese Pokémon Stadium was released for the Nintendo 64.
Known in Japan as Pocket Monsters Stadium, the game launched in 1998. It brought Pokémon battles into a three-dimensional console setting after the original handheld games had presented battles with two-dimensional graphics.
The Japanese title is easy to confuse with the internationally released Pokémon Stadium. Japan’s first Stadium game was a smaller, Japan-only release, while the Western Pokémon Stadium was released in 1999 in Japan and in 2000 in North America and Europe. The international title effectively followed the earlier Japanese experiment.
Both games were focused on battles and used Nintendo 64 hardware. Pokémon Stadium also connected with Game Boy Pokémon games through the Transfer Pak, allowing compatible Pokémon to be used on the console. This connection helped bridge handheld collecting with console-based 3D battles.
