Pokémon Stadium was originally released for the Nintendo 64.

The game launched in Japan on April 30, 1999, and later reached North America, Europe, and Australia in 2000. Developed by Nintendo EAD, it brought Pokémon battles into a 3D arena with animated attacks, tournament cups, Gym Leader Castle challenges, and multiplayer modes.

Pokémon Stadium connected to Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow through the Nintendo 64 Transfer Pak. This let players use Pokémon from their Game Boy cartridges in Stadium battles and access additional features. The game supported all 151 Pokémon from the first generation, unlike the earlier Japan-only Pocket Monsters Stadium, which had a much smaller usable roster.

The title is sometimes confused with Pokémon Stadium 2, which followed in 2000 and added compatibility with Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Pokémon Stadium was later re-released through Nintendo’s Classics service on April 12, 2023.
