Which console was Pac-Man Championship Edition first made for? Xbox 360 is the canonical answer.
Pac-Man Championship Edition was first released for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 through Xbox Live Arcade on June 6, 2007. It reworked the classic maze formula for widescreen high-definition televisions, using bright neon visuals, changing maze layouts, rapid speed increases, and short timed sessions designed for score chasing.
The project followed Namco’s 2006 Xbox Live Arcade release of the original Pac-Man. Producer Nobutaka Nakajima saw that the old game’s tall maze and low-resolution presentation did not take advantage of modern widescreen displays. Director Tadashi Iguchi and designer Toru Iwatani, Pac-Man’s original creator, helped turn that observation into a modernized interpretation. It was also the last game Iwatani designed.
The title later appeared on iOS, Android, PSP, Nintendo 3DS, and compilation releases, which can make the original platform easy to overlook. PlayStation 3 is especially confusing because the later Pac-Man Championship Edition DX reached PlayStation Network, while the first Championship Edition began on Xbox 360.
