Which console was home to the original Pokémon Stadium game?

The story behind the answer

The original Pokémon Stadium game was released for the Nintendo 64. It launched in Japan on August 1, 1998, as a 3D battle game connected to the Pokémon series.

Pokémon Stadium allowed players to watch Pokémon battles rendered in three-dimensional arenas. Its Nintendo 64 Transfer Pak also enabled compatible Game Boy Pokémon games to connect with the console version.

The Japanese release was followed by an expanded international version in 2000. The Western game is often called Pokémon Stadium, although it differs from the Japanese Pokémon Stadium 2, which was not released outside Japan under that title.

Another common mix-up concerns Pokémon Colosseum, a later 3D Pokémon battle game for the Nintendo GameCube. Pokémon Stadium belongs to the Nintendo 64 generation and helped demonstrate how handheld Pokémon teams could appear in a console-based 3D format.
