Pokémon Stadium was released for the Nintendo 64 and brought 3D Pokémon battles to a home console.
Developed by Nintendo EAD, the game used three-dimensional models for battles involving Pokémon from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. Players could enter tournament cups, challenge Gym Leaders, play mini-games, and battle using Pokémon transferred from the Game Boy cartridges.
The Transfer Pak, bundled with the game, connected Pokémon Stadium to compatible Game Boy games. This allowed players to use their own Pokémon rather than relying only on rental teams. The game supported all 151 original Pokémon, a major selling point at the time.
Pokémon Stadium is sometimes confused with Pocket Monsters Stadium, an earlier Japan-only Nintendo 64 release from 1998. The internationally released Pokémon Stadium followed in Japan in 1999 and reached Australia, Europe, and North America in 2000.
