Pokémon Stadium, the first Stadium title released in the West, was released for the Nintendo 64.
The 1999 strategy game brought 3D, turn-based Pokémon battles to Nintendo’s home console. It used the 151 Pokémon from the Game Boy games and included tournaments, a Gym Leader Castle, multiplayer battles, and mini-games.
The game connected with Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow through the Nintendo 64 Transfer Pak. This allowed players to use Pokémon from their Game Boy cartridges in battles and manage them through Stadium's features.
Japan had previously received a related, Japan-only release called Pocket Monsters Stadium in 1998. The international Pokémon Stadium was released in Japan in 1999 and reached North America and Europe in 2000.
