Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were the first main-series Pokémon games designed for the Nintendo DS.
Released in Japan in 2006, the games introduced the Sinnoh region and the fourth generation of Pokémon. Their dual-screen format supported features such as a touch-screen interface, while wireless functions expanded trading and battling beyond the older Game Boy link-cable system.
Diamond and Pearl also introduced 107 new Pokémon, bringing the overall species count to 493 at the time. Their story follows a young Trainer exploring Sinnoh while confronting Team Galactic and investigating legendary Pokémon.
The Nintendo DS was not the first Nintendo handheld to host Pokémon, but it was the first in the DS family to receive a new main-series generation. Later remakes and enhanced releases expanded the same Sinnoh era.
