Which console hosted the first Pokémon main-series games?
Answer
Game Boy
Answer
Game Boy
The Game Boy hosted the first Pokémon main-series games.
Pokémon Red and Green were released for Nintendo's Game Boy in Japan on February 27, 1996. The monochrome handheld provided the platform for the first journey through Kanto, the first Pokédex, and the original turn-based battles.
The Game Boy's link cable was especially important to Pokémon's design. Players could connect two systems to trade Pokémon or battle one another. Because Red and Green contained different Pokémon, trading was necessary for anyone trying to complete the collection. This feature helped make Pokémon a social experience rather than a purely solitary role-playing game.
The Game Boy Color later hosted Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, although those games were compatible with the original Game Boy. Nintendo 64 received Pokémon Stadium, a spin-off focused on 3D battles, but it was not the platform of the first main-series games. The Nintendo DS and later systems hosted subsequent generations.
