Which console first received the original God of War?

The original God of War first appeared on PlayStation 2.

Sony Computer Entertainment published the game in 2005, and Santa Monica Studio developed it as a third-person action title influenced by Greek mythology. Players control Kratos, who uses chained blades and magical abilities while fighting mythological creatures and gods.

The PlayStation 2 version established the series’ combat style, cinematic scale, puzzle sections, and boss battles. It also introduced the story of Kratos’s service to the Olympian gods and his attempt to escape the memories of his past.

Later God of War games appeared on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation Portable, and Windows. The first game itself was not originally released for Xbox or Nintendo hardware.
