Nvidia’s 2024 market-value rise was closely linked to demand for artificial-intelligence data-center chips.
Nvidia designs graphics processing units that can perform many calculations simultaneously. That architecture is useful for training and operating large AI models, which require substantial computing power. As cloud providers and technology companies expanded AI infrastructure, demand for Nvidia’s data-center products grew rapidly.
The company’s market capitalization responded to expectations about future earnings as well as reported financial results. Investors often value fast-growing companies by considering anticipated sales and profits, so a market-value surge does not mean that the company already holds that amount of cash.
Nvidia’s earlier identity as a gaming-focused graphics company remains part of its history, but data-center products became a major source of its growth. Its software ecosystem, especially CUDA, also helped make its hardware attractive to developers and researchers.
